Pushkar Camel Fair: A Hunting Ground for Photographers

Pushkar, a tiny town in Rajasthan becomes alive in every month of November with various activities, including camel riding, shooting, wheel rides, folk & classical music, moustache competition, etc. Notably, Pushkar Camel Fair is celebrated for five days from Kartik Ekadasi to Kartik Poornima. A small town, filled with beautiful temples, narrow streets and a picturesque lake has attracted most of the tourists and photographers across the world. You will find hundreds of photographers in every nook and cranny, taking thousands of photographs of this annual event. Its natural and serene atmosphere is worth experiencing.

Another event which is the center of attraction is the Pushkar Lake bath. People dip in the lake to instil positive thoughts in their mind. You can capture amazing shots during the event.

The advent of reasonably priced cameras, social media and the need to get the most number of ‘likes’ on Facebook bring  the masses to be a part and portion of the ‘Mela’ where you can see the world’s largest gathering of camels. Most of the photographers offer money to the turbaned men who were more than happy to pose for them.

The whole concept of capturing the atmosphere and spirit of the Pushkar Camel Fair is really interesting. Many photographers also want to capture the photos with different shapes and sizes, various patterns and colours. You must see various colours of hot air balloons where people are engaged in exhibiting their adventure quality and celebrating various occasions. Decorated camels, cattle, huge crowds of colourful people, exotic delicacies, hot air ballooning ride, shopping stalls, and various competitions have also influenced many photographers to take part in Pushkar Mela.
